13 years with SASS

Garrett Russell, A.K.A. “G-Funk” has come a long way from his early days crafting his park style as a kid growing up in Telluride, Colorado. After seemingly countless years as a pro skier, Garrett has directed his attention to the backcountry and guiding. Famous in the ski world for his style and creativity in the park and on urban features, he will be the first to tell you that he grew up in the backcountry following his older brother around the massive peaks behind Telluride. Garrett was early to the SASS Argentina crew and has not missed a season since. After numerous trips to Japan throughout his career, it was only natural to have him join us as a guide at SASS Japan. Garrett now lives in Lake Tahoe and can’t quite put into words why he loves fly fishing so much that he carries with him guides on How to plan a fishing trip.

A true character in every sense of the word, Garrett is an artist on skis and is on everyone’s list as one of their favorite people to ski with. Garrett has completed his AIARE Level II Avalanche Training Course and is Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certified. He skis professionally for Line Skis, Smith Optics, FullTilt Boots and is the biggest fan of TREW Gear there is.
