13 years with SASS

Skylar Holgate has been with SASS since its inception. A native of the San Juan Mountains of South Western Colorado, Skylar’s first job in high school was working for a guide outfit and has been guiding ever since. He is a senior guide at Silverton Mountain in Silverton, CO and a lead guide at Silverton Mountain Guides in the Northern Chugach in Alaska. He is the Head Guide at SASS Argentina and SASS Chile. He is a true mountain legend and is on snow over 200 days per year, every year. He is nearly impossible to keep up with on both the way up and down whether bootpacking, skinning or even riding switch. His amount of experience in these zones humbles us all and is a wealth of backcountry knowledge. Skylar has completed AIARE Level II Avalanche courses and is Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certified, has his Avalanche Blaster’s license and regularly teaches guide trainings and courses all over the world. Skylar rides professionally for The North Face, Smith Optics and D-Day Snowboards.
