[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”AVALANCHE SAFETY”][vc_column_text]Skiing and snowboarding are inherently dangerous activities. Skiing and snowboarding out of the boundaries of a ski resort adds to these risks. It is required that all participants ski or ride with a beacon on their person and a pack containing a shovel and probe. Every participant in the SASS Argentina program will be given an avalanche safety presentation after arrival and before heading out on the mountain. On the first day each group will take part in avalanche scenarios to practice with your beacon and plan for the worst.

SASS Argentina lead guide Skylar Holgate is in charge of snow safety and uses his vast experience in Colorado, Alaska and 11 years in Argentina to determine avalanche risks for the groups. Our professional staff of guides and coaches are in charge of each group and will help you to understand what it takes to enter into the backcountry and why certain precautions must always be taken.

We pride ourselves in our focus on avalanche education and offer constant opportunities to ask questions to further your understanding of the backcountry. GUIDES AND STAFF

SASS Chile is the brainchild of head guide and mountain legend Skylar Holgate. The staff is rounded out by SASS guides who are all accomplished professionals who have as much experience as anyone accessing ski and snowboard terrain via snowmobiles. All of our guides have completed at minimum a Level 2 AIARE avalanche safety course and are CPR and Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certified. Each has over a 8 years of experience guiding in South America. This badass crew is here to not only show you to the goods, but teach you to ride mountain sleds for the purpose of sled-access skiing in big mountain backcountry terrain.

SASS Chile is supported by the staff at Sled Chile, giving us additional resources, local knowledge and premier access to some of the world’s best terrain.

Our “average” client varies by session; and ranges from their mid-20s to early-30s, with clients in 2015 ranging from 14 to 61 years old, traveling from the U.S., Canada, Australia, UK, Switzerland, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Mexico and beyond. Don’t be scared — you’re all here for the same reason, so be ready to share an incredible experience with a new group of friends that love the mountains as much as you do.

FOOD & ASADO

Breakfast, tea and dinner are included for every night of your program. Breakfast is a North American menu; with a variety of eggs, breakfast meats, potatoes, cereal, fruit and more. Afternoon tea includes made-from-scratch pastries, snacks and sweets. Each night, Chef Cristina prepares 3 and 4-course traditional homestyle meals in our on-site kitchen; served by waitstaff in our community dining room. We also have an asado (traditional Argentinean barbecue) where our master asador prepares over 50 pounds of exceptional grass-fed organic beef, chorizo, morcilla and other regional specialties on a wood-fired parrilla. Vegetarian options available are nightly upon request. In addition, there are excellent restaurant options nearby.

COMMUNITY LODGING STANDARDS

• Your program includes shared lodging at the Base41 Lodge; typically triple occupancy rooms featuring single beds, furnishings and en-suite bath. For more privacy, consider an apartment.
• We take pride in being a great place for solo travelers; if you don’t have a rooming request, we’ll match you up with other skiers and riders of the same gender.
• We’ll make every effort to honor any rooming requests.
