Argentina Wrap Up

Summer 2010 in Bariloche, Argentina was another one for the books – an epic Santa Rosa storm that dropped 10 feet on Cerro Catedral at the end of August, team visits from Roxy (including Olympian Torah Bright), Dakine, Burton, and One Life, greenhouses and biodiesel reactors being built and donated to the community, great coaching from our guides and coaches, piles of amazing meat, and an amazing group of clients.  With the deepest and most stable snowpack in six years, the SASS crew absolutely crushed Bariloche – from the Palmero trees to the park to Laguna cliff hucks to 3,000 foot backcountry lines to 3-day hut trips at Refugio Frey.  Always incredible to see the energy, motivation, and stoke that the SASS crew has – it’s unlike anything else.  Here’s to another great season…

The SGT Crew Arrives in Bariloche!

It only makes sense that Bariloche, Argentina is going off right now because the SGT staff and crew has arrived! Within the first couple days here it has already been dumping snow, with the entire mountain covered and ready to be dominated by the SGT family.

With more snow than previous years and earlier than ever, the SGT crew has already been ripping pow lines, dipping in and out of trees runs, and have already pin-pointed and tested various jump spots for when our campers arrive. Playing hard also means working hard on the mountain, with SASS guides giving on-mountain orientations for everything from beacon drills, to radio tests, to learning about the immediate snow conditions.

Throughout the week The SGT and SASS staff has been getting the camp up and ready to go before the campers arrive. With full course Asado meals, full internet access, heat, and the most stoked staff crew they have ever had, the SGT compound here in Bariloche is the pimpest place to work hard and play harder.

The campers arrive today, and the stoke meter is going off the charts. The SGT crew is here and ready to give the campers the best SASS experience ever. Keep watch on the blog for banger photos of the copmlete South America Snow Sessions experience in Bariloche, Argentina.

SASS Global Travel Announces Roxy Women’s Session in Argentina

New partnership between SGT and action-sports giant Roxy brings pro snowboarders Erin Comstock and Robin Van Gyn to Argentina for backcountry coaching, guiding and women’s-specific events.

HAMPTON, NH, June 13 — SASS Global Travel is proud to announce the launch of the 2011 Roxy Women’s Session at its SASS Argentina operation, taking place in Bariloche, Argentina from August 20th to September 3rd, 2011.  With Roxy athletes Robin Van Gyn and Erin Comstock coaching in addition to SASS’s already stellar coaching and guiding staff, the Roxy Women’s Session is focused on getting women riders into the backcountry and improving every aspect of their snowboarding, from jumping to steeps and trees and everything in between.

SASS Argentina has been at the forefront of progression in the women’s freeride movement for years with its programs designed specifically for female riders, and is proud to have Roxy on board as its partner for the 2011 Women’s Session.  “We had the whole Roxy team down last year and they had an amazing time,” said SASS Global Travel Director Travis Moore.  “We’re very happy to be bringing Robin and Erin back from the Roxy crew to coach an awesome group of women this year.”  SASS and Roxy will be putting together not only an awesome freeride coaching and guiding program, but will have a number of signature events going on during the Session like the Chicas Only slopestyle contest and a Women in the Industry seminar.  “SASS is the most unique program I’ve ever been to,” says Roxy’s Women’s Session coach Erin Comstock.  “You’re in the middle of winter, hitting cliffs, jumps, and powder.  It’s a camp for backcountry – that’s pretty awesome!”

The Roxy Women’s Session runs from August 20th to September 3rd, and riders can pick either week (August 20th-27th or 27th-Sept. 3rd) or both – perfect timing for the biggest dumps of the Southern Hemi season, known as the Santa Rosa.  Starting at $1995/week, Women’s Session riders will have access to all of SASS Argentina’s amenities, including slopeside lodging, daily breakfast and dinner, a backcountry awareness course, 24/7 support, local airport transfers, and discounted airfare through LAN Airlines in addition to the women-specific coaching, guiding, and activities.  More details and booking information is available online at sass2016.wpengine.com/argentina/roxy or by calling 1.800.851.4660.

Battling with student loan

Having student loans is not unusual. In fact, 45 million people have them. It’s also incredibly common to feel overwhelmed by your student loan payments.

A survey of student loan borrowers found that almost 65% of respondents said they lose sleep because of the stress caused by their loans. If you find yourself overwhelmed by your monthly student loan payment, there are some options you should consider to lessen the burden. If you still haven’t taken out a student loan, be sure to use a student loan calculator to determine how much you can afford.

Before you can explore alternatives, however, you need to know the types of loans you have. Certain options are only available for federal loans as opposed to private loans. Check the Federal Student Aid website to determine any federal loans you may have, and request your free credit report to see any private loans. Once you’re familiar with your loans, you can consider new courses of action.

Create a Budget
If you don’t already have a budget, create one! This will allow you to see if you can afford your current student loan payment. It will also show you areas where you’re spending unnecessarily. If you find there just isn’t enough income to cover all your necessary expenses, then you can begin working on different ways to reduce your student loan payment.

Research Different Payment Plans
If your federal student loan payment is overwhelming, consider switching to a different payment plan. When you initially begin repayment, your loans are automatically put on the standard repayment plan. On this plan, your payments are based on a ten-year repayment term.

A Direct Consolidation Loan can help you change your payment plan to help make your payment more affordable. It can also help consolidate multiple federal loans into one loan. (Note: Consolidating your federal loans is different from student loan refinancing, discussed below.)
