Split Boardin’

SGT family member Grant Bowen send us over a little edit on splitboard making. This edit is done so well, watch the attention to detail that Grant puts into his Niche Snowboard. For those lucky few coming down to SGT Argentina this year remember that you can make a splitboard with our man Tony Pavlantos or use an MTN Approach set up. Enjoy.

Who is SGT? Head Photography Ben Girardi

Head Photographer: Ben G.

Ben Girardi is the Head Photographer for SGT Argentina. Girardi has put in his time with the SGT family down in Bariloche. No one can really say when Ben started coming down to camp, but it has been at least 7-years. Ben has shot photos for more ski and snowboard teams then you can backside 7 over. Ben has published photos in many industry publication.

Ben G. is soft spoken, honest and a very smart human being. But, do not think because he is quiet that his photos are. Ben sets the tone for the artistic vision of SGT’s photos in the Andes. His larger then life images of riding, lifestyle, and the beautiful backdrop of Patagonia give SGT an visual identity. When it comes to shredding Ben knows his way off of a cliff and up a kicker. The only real question left for our media team is: who has a better cab 7 with a 50-pound camera bag on, Ben G. or Jon Conway (head video artist).

SGT presents the Ben G story . . .

Who is SGT? Ski/Life Coach Garret Russell

"G" FunkThe Garrett Russel Experience is something that is very difficult to capture with words. Garrett Russell is much like the Matrix, no one can be told what he is. Mr Russell is a globe trotting powder hound that can handle every condition that exists on this planet. G-Funk is some kind of non-american, non-earthly, non-human mustachioed demon with fun set in his cross-hairs. With that in mind we had to give “G” his own signature session this summer (check the website, more information coming soon). I really do not know what to tell you about the session other then I promose you will never forget it.

Here’s Garrett . . .

Who is SGT? Snowboard Coach Nicki Slechta

Ms. Slechta

Nicki Slechta enters her fourth year with SGT and her tenth year as best hair in snowboarding. Nicki’s attitude toward life is to live it all day every day. She is able to take the challenges of life and turn them into positives. She is never down on herself or others and is truly a joy to be around. Slechta’s energy and unapologetic quest for fun inspires everybody she is around.

By the way Nicki is ridiculous on a snowboard, not for a girl, for anybody. Her consistently high finishes on the Dew Tour in slope style combined with her numerous wins all over the world should help you understand.

“Nicki Slechta was a serious reason why I took this job, just to ride and hang out with her makes Argentina, snowboarding and life more fun”

Who is SGT? Guide/Coach Chris Coulter

Coulter has spent more time in the backcountry then most treesChris Coulter has been dominating in every aspect of everything since he was forged out of an untold element, deep from within a secret mountain of fire and magic. If you have ever ridden with or seen Chris ride you know that he takes the gnarliest lines and does the sickest tricks in the middle of his runs. Chris has no fear factor and will go bigger then anyone. His emotions are firmly snitched on his sleeves, which is great for the rest of us because he is one of the most fun people you can ever hang out with. SGT is seriously stoked to have Chris back as a guide/coach for his fourth season as camp badass. Coulter can literally kill a man with his legs as if it were an 60-degree first descent in Alaskan.

How SGT scored Coulter:

Who is SGT?: Head Coach Andrew Burns

Backside 7 in Laguna "Burns classic"Our staff at SGT Argentina is the best in world, and people need to know more about what makes them great. In our first installment of “Who is SGT” we pull down the face mask to talk about toques, living in a trailer, and corndogs. Enjoy.

Andrew Burns is a professional snowboarder who grew up in the cold flats of Eastern Canada, on the Ontario/Quebec border. Quickly realizing that there had to be more than icy half pipe and rock hard park jumps in the snowboard world, he moved to Whistler, BC at the young age of 17. Backcountry freestyle and powder became his reason to wake up early every morning, but unfortunately, even the coastal mountains couldn’t fill the summer void of no snow and hot temperatures. One day, a simple email changed everything…

The SGT Crew Arrives in Bariloche!

It only makes sense that Bariloche, Argentina is going off right now because the SGT staff and crew has arrived! Within the first couple days here it has already been dumping snow, with the entire mountain covered and ready to be dominated by the SGT family.

With more snow than previous years and earlier than ever, the SGT crew has already been ripping pow lines, dipping in and out of trees runs, and have already pin-pointed and tested various jump spots for when our campers arrive. Playing hard also means working hard on the mountain, with SASS guides giving on-mountain orientations for everything from beacon drills, to radio tests, to learning about the immediate snow conditions.

Throughout the week The SGT and SASS staff has been getting the camp up and ready to go before the campers arrive. With full course Asado meals, full internet access, heat, and the most stoked staff crew they have ever had, the SGT compound here in Bariloche is the pimpest place to work hard and play harder.

The campers arrive today, and the stoke meter is going off the charts. The SGT crew is here and ready to give the campers the best SASS experience ever. Keep watch on the blog for banger photos of the copmlete South America Snow Sessions experience in Bariloche, Argentina.
