…SGT coach Scott Kuchinski bloopers, shralps, and mishaps…

…JF Cusson – the legend – still had style until the end of his career.  Monster sketchy quarterpipe air in Las Lenas a few years back.  From Felix Rioux’s slick new website, with lots of good shots from skiing and elsewhere.

And I dug up this old video, “Translocation,” that one of our filmers, Jon Conway, made in Bariloche a few years ago.  Great project and a different way of seeing Bariloche.

Jeremy Jones in ESPN The Magazine

Tonight marks the SOLD OUT Boston premiere of Jeremy Jones’ Deeper movie, and SASS Global Travel is giving away the movie tour’s grand prize of an SGT ski or surf trip!  To get stoked on the year’s biggest movie, check out this article on Jones that went out in ESPN the Magazine recently:

Greg Von Doersten for ESPN The Magazine A much-needed timeout: Jones may trek for nearly a full day to reach the top of his runs.

He has come here to complete his journey. It’s taken almost two years to reach this place, hidden deep within the backcountry of California’s Sierra Nevada mountain range, and even deeper within himself. But it’s taken Jeremy Jones a lifetime — 35 years — to accumulate the knowledge, skill and desire to find it.

It’s shortly before 5 a.m. on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, a day most people begin by incapacitating their alarm clocks. Jones, on the other hand, needs only anticipation to stir him from his sleeping bag. He dresses in the deep dark of the great outdoors: well-worn yellow snowboard pants, a sky-blue jacket and a white beanie he pulls tightly over unruly auburn waves. He laces into his snowboard boots and calls out to his crew — a photographer, a videographer and up-and-coming big-mountain snowboarder Ralph Backstrom — to make sure each is awake and vertical. Once they are, the men gather around the camp’s makeshift kitchen and fill their bellies with warm coffee and oatmeal.

Thanksgiving Weekend Recap

Holidays or not, the SGT Tour with Sierra Nevada College and Flat Rate Moving keeps on cruisin’.  Tuesday we went to Castleton State College in Vermont for a visit, then after some turkey and mom grub Thanksgiving day it was back to spreading the good word…

The Moore brother reppin’ SGT hard at the Portsmouth premiere of the Modern Collective’s Innerception.

Friday we joined local surf shop and my former employer (from waaaay back) Cinnamon Rainbows to premiere the Modern Collective’s new surf film, Innerception.  After a stack of prizes including Dakine packs and a GoPro camera, it was onto extracurriculars in Portsmouth.

Saturday we were at the absolutely packed Rye Airfield for the Granite Gorge/Steez Mini Mag/SGT Jibba Jabba rail jam.  The GG crew packed in heaps of ice rink snow from all over Seacoast NH for the super fun setup, including a down-bar, “the crippler,” and a small box to culvert pipe.

The setup for the Jibba Jabba rail jam.

Happy Thanksgiving from SGT!

While we here on the East Coast have been hard-pressed to be thankful with our dry mountainsides while everyone west of the Mississippi has been getting faceshots, we are thankful for all the people and things that make our job and life amazing – snow, surf, our athletes, staff, coaches, guides, operators, and clients, and all the others people who’ve helped us get this SASS Global Travel experiment this far.  Big thanks to all of you.

Now here’s Line Skis athlete Andrew Whiteford, who without a doubt has to be thankful for these turns this Thanksgiving…

SGT Argentina Clients Crushing It!

It’s no mystery that the level of riding at our Argentina program is high – when you’re shredding with the likes of backcountry slayers like James Heim, Chris Coulter, and Vera Janssen, you don’t have a choice.  But that credit extends even to our clients – tons came down this summer who could hold their own with the best.  Now we’re starting to see some recognition:

Ontario’s own Meagen LaFave recently scored herself a full-page ad in Snowboard Canada for Easy Rider snow shop with this shot taken by fellow client Michaela Eichenbaum at Cerro Catedral – slaying it ladies!

As well, another talented Argentina client, Jake Cohn, got some shots in the recently acclaimed ski film out of Dendrite Studios, “Out of the Shadows.”  Lots of badass big-mountain skiing from a ton of unknowns out of British Columbia in this one, and Jake gets some big shots in there too!  You can see Jake slaunching the ALO trestle at Garrett Russell’s house in Telluride above.  Out of the Shadows is available on DVD and for whatever price for digital download you want to pay (starting at $1.99).  Pretty cheap for rad skiing to keep you stoked during the shoulder season… aka if you live on the East Coast and aren’t already slaying pow like the rest of the country.  Bastards!

Shreddy Times Shredit #1

With tons of snow in Tahoe (66″  at Kirkwood?), the Shreddy Times crew has been getting after it.

[vimeo video_id=”17015021″ width=”550″ height=”310″ title=”Yes” byline=”Yes” portrait=”Yes” autoplay=”No” loop=”No” color=”00adef”]

Here’s some fun turns with the Shreddy crew along with SGT athlete Michelle Parker and homie, recent Wachusset-Tahoe transplant and Main Event Series slayer William “Mayo” Mayo getting after it.  Despite her sex appeal, it took Michelle 43 tries to hitch a ride back to the Mt. Rose parking lot… what’s going on people?

New Video Up for Japan

So two years ago, when I was messing around at the vallet desk while I was working in Aspen, I watched a video about skiing in Niseko, Japan, after which point I nearly quit my job to be on Skype full-time calling kichens in Niseko for interviews and to plan my next season in Japan.

Turns out it was actually THIS video that made me feel that way – “En Route: Japan” by our friends Eric Pollard, Pep Fujas, and Chris Benchetler at Nimbus Independent.

[vimeo video_id=”14396662″ width=”550″ height=”310″ title=”Yes” byline=”Yes” portrait=”Yes” autoplay=”No” loop=”No” color=”00adef”]

Check it out (from 17:45 is what made me want to quit), and remember that once you’re done salivating over the neck-deep pow, you only have 4 more days to save $250 on the Jan. 22-29 PowerTrip to the Black Diamond Lodge in Niseko, the very same spot these guys slayed.

Jay, VT Lodge Theory Pricing is Up!

Hey boys and girls – good news!  The pricing that many of your have been asking for for the Lodge Theory operation in Jay, Vermont is now live here! Two nights lodging, two days of guiding and private access to the Lodge Theory terrain, and a Jay Peak single day ticket starting at $199. We’re stoked on that pricing and hope you will be, too.  Be sure to get on the site and book your New England backcountry experience today – this one’s gonna go quickly.

Crush it in the Vermont b/c this winter!
